A reclining wheelchair for long hours of use and home care

The Reclining Proteus I belongs to our reclining wheelchairs range and is intended for users who remain seated for extended periods. The backrest reclines continuously from 90° to 160°, allowing a change of posture throughout the day — upright for meals and activities, near-horizontal for rest — without transferring the user to a bed.

That capability matters for relieving pressure around the sacrum and hips, and for reducing the risk of pressure sores in people with limited mobility.

Comfort and support in every position

The adjustable headrest supports the neck when the backrest is reclined, while the elevating legrests with adjustable length raise the lower limbs — helping reduce swelling in users with circulatory problems or after surgery. The legrests detach completely to make transfers in and out of the chair easier.

The seat and backrest are made of PVC leather, which wipes clean with a damp cloth — a practical advantage in daily home care.

Folding armrests with side panels

The armrests fold back so the user can transfer sideways to a bed or toilet without a full lift. Side panels keep clothing away from the wheels.

Self-propelled or attendant-pushed

The 24" rear wheels with a quick-release system let the user propel the chair via the handrims, and come off in seconds without tools for transport in a car boot. The 8"x2" polyurethane front castors are solid — they cannot puncture and never need inflating.

The attendant has separate brakes on the push handles for safe control on slopes, while anti-tip casters prevent the chair from tipping backwards — particularly important when the backrest is reclined and the centre of gravity shifts. A safety belt secures the user during transport.

Yes. The 24" rear wheels have handrims for self-propulsion. The chair weighs 23.5 kg, so for longer distances or inclines an attendant is recommended.
